TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has approved a major reshuffle of the country’s top military leadership, appointing new commanders to key positions in the Armed Forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
In this regard, as per the Iranian Media, Major General Ali Abdollahi has been appointed Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, while Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi has been named Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The latest appointments come amid significant changes in Iran’s senior military leadership and are being viewed as an important development in the country’s defence and security structure.
The reshuffle places experienced senior commanders in key positions responsible for overseeing Iran’s military and strategic affairs.
Amir Kioumars Heidari has also been appointed Deputy Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces, according to reports.
On the other hand, Dr Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has been designated as a political adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
The leadership changes follow a period of heightened security and military tensions in the region, making the restructuring of Iran’s senior command particularly significant.
The Iranian authorities have not publicly linked the appointments to any specific military operation, but the changes are being closely watched amid broader regional developments.
The new appointments mean that Iran’s Armed Forces and the IRGC will now operate under a reorganised senior command structure.
Major General Ali Abdollahi’s appointment as Chief of Staff and Ahmad Vahidi’s elevation as IRGC commander are among the most significant changes announced in the reshuffle.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has invited Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Islamabad for talks, according to Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Ismail Baghai.
The latest military appointments are expected to have implications for Iran’s defence policy, military coordination and political decision-making. Further details regarding the responsibilities and priorities of the newly appointed commanders are expected to emerge in the coming days.
