ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ikhtiyar Wali Khan has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders of making claims before their workers that, according to him, do not match their actions on the ground.
Wali Khan alleged that PTI leaders frequently announce major protests and long marches but fail to demonstrate the same level of action in practice.
He also questioned the party’s participation in funerals of security personnel killed in terrorist attacks, saying that political differences should not prevent leaders from standing with the families of those who lose their lives in the line of duty.
The PML-N leader mentioned the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where police and security forces continue to face security threats and casualties linked to terrorism.
Wali Khan said supporting the families of fallen personnel was a collective responsibility and stressed the importance of standing with those who make sacrifices for public safety.
He also claimed that the federal government had provided around Rs800 billion to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for maintaining law and order. Separately, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar recently said the province had received substantial resources under the NFC framework for counterterrorism-related responsibilities.
Wali Khan further alleged that PTI wanted to transform the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police into what he described as an “ISF force,” referring to the party’s Insaf Students Federation.
He said the police should remain a professional institution and should not be used for political purposes. According to Wali Khan, attempts to politicise law-enforcement institutions would not be allowed.
The allegations come amid continuing political debate over the responsibilities of the federal and provincial governments regarding security, counterterrorism resources and policing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Political Dispute Continues
The remarks reflect the wider political disagreement between the federal government and the PTI-led political camp over security, governance and the use of provincial resources.
Recent comments by federal officials have similarly focused on the need for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to fulfil its responsibilities concerning law and order while making effective use of available resources.
