Abbas Araghchi, the Foreign Minister of Iran, indicated that Tehran remains open to negotiations with the United States, provided Washington adopts a less confrontational approach. He focused on that while Iran has consistently supported diplomatic solutions, meaningful dialogue cannot take place under pressure or threats.
In this regard, Araghchi reasserted Iran’s longstanding position that diplomacy, based on mutual respect and equality, is essential for resolving regional and international disputes. However, he made it clear that coercive tactics undermine the prospects of constructive engagement.
“Iran has always favored diplomacy,” he stated, “but negotiations conducted under intimidation are neither effective nor acceptable.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister also underlined the country’s defensive preparedness, noting that Iran’s armed forces possess the capability to respond decisively to any potential aggression.
He stressed that safeguarding national sovereignty and security remains a top priority, and that Iran is fully prepared to defend its territorial integrity if necessary.
Iran has conveyed a new proposal concerning a ceasefire agreement to the United States through Pakistan, signaling continued indirect engagement despite heightened tensions. This move reflects Tehran’s willingness to explore diplomatic channels, even amid strained relations.
Araghchi further mentioned that lasting peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through dialogue grounded in fairness and reciprocal respect. He called on all parties to move away from escalatory rhetoric and instead focus on constructive engagement that addresses shared concerns.
The statement comes at a time of ongoing geopolitical tensions, where both sides have expressed firm positions. Analysts suggest that Iran’s conditional openness to talks may provide a window for renewed diplomatic efforts, should there be a shift in tone from Washington.
