MOSCOW: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed US President Donald Trump’s recent visit to China, the situation in Iran and other important global issues during an informal meeting held in Beijing.
Speaking to reporters, Peskov said President Xi Jinping briefed President Putin on the outcomes of Donald Trump’s recent visit to China and the discussions held there.
According to the Kremlin spokesman, the meeting between the two leaders was detailed and significant, covering several sensitive issues related to global politics. He added that the situation concerning Iran was also an important part of the talks between Putin and Xi Jinping.
Peskov further said that President Putin proposed transferring Iran’s enriched uranium to Russia, adding that it would be up to Tehran and Washington to decide whether to accept or reject the proposal. He said the offer could be considered if both Iran and the United States deemed it appropriate.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Peskov strongly criticized US sanctions and pressure against Cuba, saying that the American economic blockade was causing severe difficulties for ordinary Cuban citizens.
He also warned that increased US military pressure and naval demonstrations would further worsen the hardships faced by the Cuban people.
Responding to US accusations against former Cuban leader Raul Castro, Peskov said Russia does not support aggressive methods of pressuring the leadership of other countries.
“We believe such methods, which come close to the use of force, should not be used against the leadership of any country,” Peskov said, adding that Russia considers US pressure on Cuba unacceptable.
