LONDON: A British magazine has claimed that Russia has offered to supply Iran with advanced, jam-resistant drones capable of targeting U.S. and allied forces in the Persian Gulf and beyond.
According to the report, the drones are operated via fiber-optic cable, making them immune to electronic jamming. The proposed package, allegedly developed by Russia’s Central Intelligence Directorate (GRU), includes 5,000 short-range drones and an unspecified number of long-range satellite-guided systems.
Similar drones have been used with notable success by Russian forces against Ukrainian targets, the magazine noted.
Citing an undisclosed document, the report stated it remains unclear when the offer was made to Tehran or whether Iran has accepted it.
Notably, Moscow is already believed to have provided Iran with intelligence to help target U.S. troops in the region. American media has repeatedly alleged that Russia is indirectly involved in the Middle East conflict by funneling secret information to Iran for strikes on American assets.
Neither the Kremlin nor Iranian officials have publicly commented on the latest claims.
