Sindh Extends Section 144 by One Month

Section 144 imposed across Balochistan, including Quetta, until Jan 31

KARACHI: The Sindh government has extended the imposition of Section 144 across the province for an additional month, enforcing a blanket ban on protests, sit-ins, rallies, and the display of weapons, according to an official notification issued by the Sindh Home Department.

The fresh restrictions, which aim to maintain public order and security, also prohibit wall chalking and all forms of public gatherings throughout the province. However, security guards have been exempted from the weapons ban while performing official duties.

The notification explicitly states that protests, sit-ins, rallies, and the display of weapons will remain prohibited. Additionally, any form of wall chalking or public assembly is banned across Sindh.

The Home Department has warned that cases will be registered against individuals found violating the restrictions. Station House Officers (SHOs) have been empowered to take legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code against those who defy the orders.

The extension comes amid ongoing efforts by provincial authorities to curb potential disruptions to public life and maintain law and order. The previous month-long imposition of Section 144 had expired, prompting the renewed ban.
