Marka-i-Haq Monument nears completion in Rawalpindi amid rapid development at Kutchery Chowk

RAWALPINDI: The construction of the Marka-i-Haq Monument at Baggi Park, located at Kutchery Chowk in front of Fatima Jinnah Women University, is nearing completion and is expected to be finalized in the first week of May, officials said.

The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) has been entrusted with executing the project on The Mall under the directions of the Punjab government, which has also provided the necessary funding.

The monument is being built to commemorate the sacrifices of martyrs and honour the services of ghazis associated with Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

The official noted that while the monument is a replica of an existing structure in Islamabad, its construction in an already established public park makes it distinct, as no additional land has been acquired for the purpose.

He added that the project is likely to be completed before May 10, marking the first anniversary of Marka-i-Haq.

“The monument reflects the nation’s unity, resilience, and unwavering resolve in the face of challenges,” the official stated. He further said that the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has been assigned the task of improving and developing the surrounding park area, where landscaping and land development work is already underway.

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has proposed renaming the Kutchery Chowk flyover and underpass as Marka-i-Haq Flyover and Underpass. A senior RMC official confirmed that, as per legal requirements, public objections and suggestions have been invited before finalizing the new names.

Meanwhile, work on the broader Kutchery Chowk remodelling project is progressing at a steady pace. In this regard, the specific components include 76 percent completion at the main intersection, 74 percent on Iftikhar Janjua Road, and 75 percent at Jinnah Park Chowk.

The divisional administration has directed that all work be completed by May 31. Authorities stated that construction is continuing in double shifts to meet the accelerated timeline, with the project expected to be completed well ahead of its original 18-month schedule.
