ISLAMABAD: Security forces have arrested Amir Sohail, also known as Maulvi Haider, a senior figure linked to the militant network described by authorities as Fitna al-Khawarij, officials said on Friday.
Officials said the suspect made key disclosures during interrogation. He told investigators he joined the group after being influenced by anti-state propaganda. He said he later received militant training at a facility in Afghanistan’s Paktika Province.
According to his statement, militant centers in Afghanistan operated with support from elements within the Afghan Taliban. He also claimed links between the network and other militant groups, including ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
He said his unit included more than 20 fighters, including Afghan nationals. He alleged that funding came from sources inside Afghanistan as well as foreign intelligence channels, including India’s Research and Analysis Wing.
Officials said the suspect admitted involvement in attacks on security forces in Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Mianwali.
He also told investigators that the group’s activities had no connection with Islam or jihad and were driven by financial motives.
