Qatar lauds Pakistan’s role, rejects new US-Iran mediator

DOHA: Qatar has firmly denied any agreement with Iran and clarified that it is not playing the role of a mediator in the ongoing tensions involving Tehran and Washington. The statements were made by Majid Al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a media briefing.

Al-Ansari confirmed that Doha remains engaged in high-level contacts with Pakistan, the United States, and other brotherly countries to secure a ceasefire.

He praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between the US and Iran, emphasizing that no new mediator—including Qatar itsel—is required in the current negotiations.

“Since the announcement of the two-week ceasefire, Iran has not attacked Qatar, and a solution to the problem has become inevitable to maintain peace,” the spokesman said. He strongly rejected reports of a deal with Iran aimed at stopping attacks on Qatar, calling such news “baseless.”

Al-Ansari further stated that Qatar currently has no direct contacts with Iran. “All our focus is on the security and defense of our country,” he added.

Addressing maritime security, the Qatari spokesman said that the control and monopoly of any single party over the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable. He reiterated Qatar’s commitment to supporting negotiations for the restoration of the strait’s normal status.
