New-Look Rawalpindi Back Rizwan for PSL 11

LAHORE: Rawalpindi (former Multan Sultans) have finalised their retained players for the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11, as the franchise moves to build a strong squad for the upcoming season.

The team retained Pakistan captain and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan in the Platinum category at a salary of Rs56 million. In the Diamond category, Rawalpindi kept England’s aggressive batter Sam Billings for Rs30.8 million.

Fast bowler Zaman Khan was retained in the Gold category for Rs11.2 million. Yasir Khan secured his place in the Silver category for Rs6 million.

Earlier, the Multan Sultans franchise was auctioned and acquired by Wali Tech, which renamed the team Rawalpindi. The winning bid stood at Rs2.45 billion under a 10-year agreement, making it the most expensive franchise in PSL history.

Five bidders participated in the auction. The base price was set at Rs1.82 billion.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), it received six proposals within the deadline. After a detailed and transparent evaluation process, the PCB declared five bidders technically qualified. All five took part in the auction.

The sale set a new benchmark in the PSL market. The Rs2.45 billion price tag established Rawalpindi as the league’s most valuable franchise. Wali Technologies Group announced the team’s new name immediately after securing ownership.

Former owner Ali Tareen had declined to renew the franchise rights. The PCB temporarily took over management of Multan Sultans earlier this year. Following the successful auction of two new PSL teams, the board decided to auction Multan as well.
