KP government’s protocol harasses a car rider on road

RAWALPINDI: KP Government’s protocol-vehicles brutally torture a car-rider in Rawalpindi.

Footage goes viral on social media displaying a hostile and arrogant behavior of the protocol vehicles of the KP Government.

The footage shows that the protocol vehicles move on a road while they follow a car running ahead of them.

Certainly, the two protocol vehicles come closer to the car running ahead, and the drivers of the vehicles deliberately hit their vehicles to that car and force the citizen riding in it to stop.

The security guards rush out of the vehicles and start beating the citizen brutally.

That truly show-cases the arrogance, rudeness and the stubbornness that the KP government officials carry towards the common men.

The experts have turned down such unethical move by the KP Government and have said that if that has to be done with someone in Punjab, what one should expect about the citizens residing in KP areas who are controlled and governed by such people.

In Pakistan, government protocol vehicles, often part of large convoys for politicians, judges, bureaucrats, and military officials, are frequently criticized for aggressive and disruptive behavior toward ordinary citizens. This stems from the entrenched VIP culture, where influential individuals and their security details prioritize their movement over public convenience and safety.

Common issues include blocking major roads for extended periods, forcing other vehicles off the road, driving on the wrong side, excessive speeding, and intimidating drivers who fail to yield immediately.

Security personnel in these convoys have been reported to verbally abuse, threaten, or physically assault citizens, sometimes waving guns or coercing people to violate traffic rules.

Notable past incidents highlight the severity: in one case, a child was run over and killed by a VIP convoy that did not stop; in another, an infant died after an ambulance or family vehicle was delayed due to road blockades for a political leader’s visit.

Activists and ordinary drivers have faced rough treatment for not clearing the way quickly enough in congested traffic.

Critics argue this behavior reflects a colonial-era mindset of elite superiority, wasting public resources (fuel, police manpower) and fostering inequality.

Public frustration is widespread, with calls on social media and in protests to end unnecessary protocols except for genuine emergencies like ambulances.

Governments, including PTI in 2018, have attempted reforms, such as banning VIP protocols at airports and reducing security details, but implementation remains inconsistent, and the practice persists across political parties and institutions.

Many view it as a symbol of power assertion rather than necessary security, exacerbating traffic chaos in cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi.
