ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned the shooting incident in Washington DC, reportedly involving an Afghan national.
The country expressed condolences to the family of the deceased soldier and wished a speedy recovery for the injured. Heartfelt sympathies were extended to the affected families, the U.S. government, and the American people.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi called the attack a clear act of terrorism and a heinous assault on US soil. He noted that Pakistan has faced similar terrorist incidents over the past two decades, many with links to Afghanistan.
Andrabi said the incident highlights the challenges posed by transnational terrorism. He urged enhanced global cooperation to combat the threat.

The incident occurred when a suspect opened fire on National Guards in Washington. Two guards were seriously injured.
Authorities identified the suspect as 29-year-old Afghan citizen Rahmanullah Lakanwal. He is accused of shooting at the guards, who remain in critical condition.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said on social media platform X that all Afghan immigration applications will undergo a full security review.
USCIS said the suspension will remain in effect until security protocols and investigative systems are reassessed.
