‘Mom went for Hajj’: Son waits for mother killed in honour killing

QUETTA: The grieving family of Bano Bibi, who was brutally murdered in a recent honour killing case, has come forward with emotional revelations, painting a tragic yet courageous picture of the final days of the victim.

In a statement to the media, Bano Bibi’s eldest son recalled his mother’s final moments. “She did not cry. She wasn’t afraid. She embraced death with great bravery,” he said. “Before she left, she gave us a message: ‘Take care of yourselves, and look after your father.’”

The most heartbreaking moment came from her six-year-old son, Zakir Ahmed, who innocently told reporters, “My mother has gone to perform Hajj.”

Bano Bibi’s sister and paternal aunt also spoke to the media, revealing the emotional turmoil Bano experienced before her death. According to them, Bano had realized that she had made a mistake and felt deep shame in front of her tribe and family. “She used to say, ‘Give me a pistol so I can end my own life.’ But a man named Ihsanullah pressured her to run away,” they claimed.

Official identification documents have surfaced, including the CNICs (Computerized National Identity Cards) of Bano Bibi and her husband Noor Muhammad, as well as the family’s child registration forms (B-Forms). According to the documents, Bano Bibi was 40 years old, and her husband Noor Muhammad, was 38.

Police sources confirmed that two suspects have been taken into custody on a ten-day physical remand. Additionally, the victim’s mother has also been placed in the custody of the Serious Crimes Investigation Wing on a two-day remand. Legal proceedings in the case are ongoing.

This case has sparked outrage and sorrow across the province, as yet another woman falls victim to the devastating practice of so-called honour killings. The emotional testimonies of Bano’s children and relatives underscore the human cost of a culture that continues to value reputation over life.
