QUETTA: Former Balochistan Chief Minister and National Party leader Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch strongly condemned the use of batons and tear gas against protesting government employees.
Speaking in the Balochistan Assembly, he stated that employees are the backbone of institutions, and subjecting them to such brutality during peaceful protests sets a grim precedent.
He emphasized that demanding salary increases is a democratic right, especially in times of soaring inflation when many employees are struggling to make ends meet.
Instead of addressing their legitimate concerns, the government chose force and arrests.
Dr. Malik, on behalf of his party, condemned the incident and urged the government to pursue dialogue and fulfill the workers’ demands.
Responding to Dr. Malik’s remarks, Balochistan Chief Minister said that the protesters are like our children and the government is open to negotiations.
However, he highlighted the financial strain, noting that the employees’ demands would add a burden of Rs. 40 billion to the provincial budget, which is unsustainable.

He added that several political parties had sought prior permission before staging protests, and the High Court has clearly stated that demonstrations must not obstruct roads or cause damage. Section 144 was imposed, and if anyone attempts to disrupt the assembly or the state system under the guise of protest, such actions cannot be tolerated or accepted.
