WEB DESK: As the conflict in Iran continues to deplete critical national stockpiles, the Pentagon is now estimated to be spending nearly $1 billion a day, raising serious questions about America’s overall military readiness.
According to an investigation by The New York Times, independent estimates cited by the paper place the total cost of the war between $28 billion and $35 billion. The staggering financial toll is matched by an equally alarming expenditure of firepower, with Pentagon spending reaching approximately $1 billion per day during peak operations.
The conflict has seen the most intense use of advanced munitions in a generation. Reports indicate that the US military has used over 1,200 Patriot interceptor missiles (costing over $4 million each) and more than 1,000 Tomahawk cruise missiles (around ten times the number typically bought annually). Furthermore, the US has burned through roughly 1,100 long-range stealth cruise missiles specifically stockpiled for a potential war with China, effectively cutting those reserves in half.
