BAHRAIN: A U.S. Navy MH-60 Seahawk helicopter made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea on Thursday, with search-and-rescue operations continuing for one unaccounted crew member, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
The three other personnel aboard the aircraft were safely recovered and are reported to be in stable condition. CENTCOM confirmed that the incident was not the result of hostile fire, stating in a release that “there are no indications of enemy action” involved.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials have not disclosed the specific location of the incident or the type of mission the Seahawk was conducting at the time. The names of the crew members are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
The MH-60 Seahawk is a twin-engine, multi-mission helicopter widely used by the U.S. Navy for anti-submarine warfare, search-and-rescue, and logistics support. The Arabian Sea has seen increased U.S. naval activity in recent months as part of maritime security operations.
CENTCOM said search assets have been dispatched to the area and that the missing crewman’s status remains a “top priority.” Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
