Trump may visit Pakistan if Iran talks succeed: Mushahid

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan China Institute (PCI) Chairman Mushahid Hussain Syed and former Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry have expressed optimism that the second round of negotiations between Iran and the United States will yield positive results, with Mushahid predicting that a successful outcome could bring US President Donald Trump to Islamabad himself.

Speaking on the talk show Capital Talk, Mushahid Hussain Syed remarked that if the talks prove successful, President Trump would not delegate the signing of any agreement to Vice President JD Vance. Instead, Trump would personally travel to Islamabad to sign it.

“If the talks are successful, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will also come to Pakistan,” Mushahid added, suggesting that a trilateral diplomatic engagement could be on the horizon.

Echoing similar sentiments, former Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, also appearing on the program, stated that the second round of Iran-US talks is likely to be productive and lead to tangible progress.

The comments come in the wake of recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who has identified Pakistan as a priority location for future negotiations with Iran. Trump also praised the performance of Pakistan’s military leadership.

In an interview with a reporter from the American newspaper New York Post, Trump said, “You should stay there because something may happen in the next two days, and we are more inclined to go to Pakistan.”

The US president further noted that Pakistan is more likely to be chosen as the venue for talks because, as he put it, “the field marshal is doing an excellent job” — an apparent reference to Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, whom Trump referred to with the honorary title of Field Marshal.

Observers view these developments as a significant shift in regional diplomacy, potentially positioning Pakistan as a key mediator between Washington and Tehran.
