KP bans govt employees from marrying foreigners

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has imposed a ban on government employees marrying foreign nationals without prior approval, issuing new rules that mandate formal permission before any such union, officials confirmed.

According to a notification issued by the Human Resource Management Department, the KP  Civil Servants (Prohibition on Marriage with Foreign Nationals) Rules 2026 have been enacted. Under these rules, no government employee may marry a foreign national or promise to do so without obtaining prior permission from the government.

Violation of the rules will be treated as misconduct, leading to departmental action under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa KP Government Servants Efficiency and Discipline Rules 2011.

To seek permission, government employees must submit a formal application through their respective administrative departments. The application must be accompanied by necessary documents, a character clearance certificate, and an affidavit confirming that the foreign national is not involved in any illegal or anti-state activity.

The KP government will consider multiple factors before granting approval, including the foreign spouse’s nationality, diplomatic relations between that country and Pakistan, security and intelligence assessments, and clearance from relevant agencies.

The notification also states that cases of KP government employees who have already married foreign nationals without prior permission will be re-presented before the government for a decision. Additionally, the government retains the power to relax these rules in specific cases based on written reasons.

The new rules take effect immediately, and all government departments across the province have been directed to ensure strict compliance
