KARACHI : The Sindh government has approved a one-year extension for the deployment of the Sindh Rangers in the province, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The Sindh Cabinet, during a meeting held in Karachi, greenlit the extension of the paramilitary force’s stay for another year, effective from July 20, 2026, to July 19, 2027.
According to government officials, the provincial cabinet’s approval has cleared the way for the federal Ministry of Interior to issue a formal notification regarding the extension.
The Rangers have been deployed in Sindh under Article 147 of the Constitution, assisting civilian law enforcement agencies in maintaining public order and carrying out targeted operations against criminal and militant elements.
The extension comes amid ongoing security operations in Karachi and other parts of the province, where the Rangers have played a key role in curbing street crime, target killings, and extortion activities in recent years.
No immediate comment was available from the Rangers spokesperson or the Ministry of Interior, though officials indicated that the formal order is expected to be issued shortly.
The decision reflects continued coordination between the provincial and federal governments on internal security matters, despite periodic political tensions over the paramilitary force’s powers and scope of operations
