MUZAFFARABAD: Authorities in Azad Kashmir (AJK) have drafted an extensive security plan ahead of a planned protest movement and a long march call by the Joint Public Action Committee, officials said.
According to official sources, the government has recommended the deployment of around 14,000 additional security personnel to maintain law and order during the expected demonstrations. Federal assistance has been formally requested to support the plan.
Under the proposed arrangements, nearly 6,000 personnel from the Frontier Constabulary and 5,000 from the Pakistan Rangers are expected to be deployed in the region. Additional contingents from Islamabad Police and Sindh Police have also been proposed to strengthen security operations.
Officials said that around 60 percent of the total deployed force will be equipped with anti-riot gear and tear gas equipment to handle any possible protest-related unrest, while the remaining 40 percent will be assigned to sensitive locations with arms and ammunition.
The proposed security plan is expected to remain in effect from June 7 to June 21, with authorities planning to further tighten security ahead of the scheduled long march on June 9.
Sources said joint deployment of Rangers, Frontier Constabulary, and police units is also under consideration. Elite commandos in special uniforms may also be stationed in sensitive areas to ensure rapid response in case of emergencies.
The AJK government has formally written to the federal Ministry of Interior, requesting immediate provision of additional forces in view of the evolving security situation.
