PESHAWAR: An intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces and law enforcement agencies in Khyber district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing said.
The operation was carried out on April 21 after information about the presence of militants was received, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in the statement. An intense exchange of fire was reported during the operation.
A total of 22 militants were killed in the operation. The individuals were said to be linked to a militant group described by officials as “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
During the operation, a 10-year-old child was killed due to militant fire, the statement said. A large cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered.
The ISPR said the militants had been involved in multiple attacks. A search and clearance operation was continuing in the area amid reports of the presence of more militants.
The operation was described as part of ongoing efforts under a broader strategy aimed at eliminating militancy.
