PM Special Relief Scheme Rollout and Free SMS Registration

PM Special Relief Scheme Rollout and Free SMS Registration

ISLAMABAD: PM special relief scheme rollout has received a major impetus as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level review meeting and directed authorities to make the registration SMS completely free for citizens seeking fuel subsidies.

According to the details, the PM special relief scheme is designed to provide targeted fuel relief to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, and vehicles up to 800cc, easing financial burdens amidst high inflation.

Implementation for Islamabad residents is scheduled to roll out between the night of September 14 and 15, 2026, while rollout across Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the rest of the country will commence on the night of September 16 and 17, 2026.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif instructed the Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Inspector General, and district administration to remain active in the field to assist citizens through registration procedures.

Furthermore, elected representatives, volunteers, and comprehensive media awareness campaigns across print, electronic, and digital platforms have been mobilized to ensure the maximum outreach and success of the PM special relief scheme.

Impact of Fuel Price Hikes on Bikers and Rickshaw Drivers

Surging fuel prices over recent years have exerted an unbearable financial squeeze on motorcyclists and auto-rickshaw drivers, who form the backbone of daily urban commuting and blue-collar livelihoods in Pakistan.

For millions of daily-wage laborers, delivery riders, and public transport operators, motorcycles and rickshaws are not mere modes of convenience but the primary engines of household income.

When petroleum costs escalate uncontrollably, a staggering portion of daily earnings is instantly siphoned off into fuel tanks, drastically cutting down net disposable income for food, healthcare, and education.

Many drivers are forced to work grueling, extended hours just to break even, while others face difficult compromises on vehicle maintenance, directly threatening road safety.

Furthermore, rising transport costs trigger a cascading inflationary effect on basic commodities, squeezing urban working-class families from multiple directions.

Targeted fuel subsidies and relief interventions serve as a crucial economic cushion for these vulnerable transport workers, mitigating the harsh shocks of international energy price volatility and protecting the daily wage earners who keep the wheels of the economy turning.
