NDMA Issues Nationwide Rain and Hailstorm Alert

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert predicting strong winds, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hailstorms across most parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise extreme caution.

According to the NDMA spokesperson, thunderstorms and heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds are expected in the federal capital Islamabad, as well as various districts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan, with hailstorms likely in isolated areas. Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also expected to receive rainfall.

Due to rising temperatures, there is a severe risk of flash floods and landslides triggered by melting glaciers and Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs). Consequently, citizens have been strictly warned against visiting glacial lakes or staying near high-risk zones.

Furthermore, the authority cautioned that strong winds and potential hailstorms in the southern regions of the country could damage weak structures, solar panels, and vehicles.

Travelers in mountainous terrains are also urged to take all necessary precautions, as rain-induced conditions could cause severe travel disruptions.
