PTI leaders in KP face internal rift over alleged illegal mining activities

The fresh controversy has emerged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as differences within senior circles of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have reportedly surfaced over allegations related to illegal mining and mineral smuggling in the province.

The two influential groups associated with the ruling political leadership in the province are said to be in conflict over control and interests linked to mineral resources.

In this sense, the reports suggest that one group is allegedly associated with individuals close to PTI leader Sohail Afridi, including his brother Naveed Afridi and Aamir Afridi, while the opposing side is believed to include former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, his brother Aqibullah Khan, and their close associates.

The disagreements between the two camps have intensified in recent weeks, bringing internal differences into the open.

So far, the sources claim that illegal mining and the smuggling of mineral resources have become a growing concern in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Allegations are also being raised that certain politically influential individuals are providing support to groups involved in unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.

However, no official statement has yet been issued by the concerned political figures regarding these claims.

As per the official sources, an Assistant Commissioner in Swabi, Alina Shakeel, allegedly stopped a truck suspected of being involved in mineral smuggling despite political recommendations and pressure.

It is further claimed that orders for her transfer were issued shortly afterward following alleged political intervention.

In another reported development, former Deputy Commissioner Nasrullah was also transferred allegedly due to disagreements linked to administrative decisions and political influence. These incidents have raised concerns among observers regarding governance, administrative independence, and the enforcement of law in matters related to natural resources.

So far, provincial authorities have not released any formal response regarding the allegations or the reported disputes between the political groups.
