CHAMAN: A high-security alert has been sounded in Chaman’s Kandahari Bazaar and surrounding areas after a prisoner escaped from police custody from a moving police van on Wednesday, triggering an immediate and widespread search operation.
According to initial reports, the accused managed to flee from the police vehicle in the congested Kandahari Bazaar area, taking advantage of the bustling market crowds. Within minutes of the escape, law enforcement agencies launched a large-scale manhunt to recapture the fugitive.
Police officials confirmed that a complete blockade has been established across the city, with checkpoints set up at all major entry and exit points to prevent the accused from fleeing the district. Simultaneously, search operations are being conducted at multiple suspected hideouts and vacant buildings, with additional police contingents deployed to patrol sensitive zones.
Speaking to the media, police authorities stated that they are also investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. “We are examining the reasons behind the escape and whether any negligence on the part of the escorting officers contributed to this lapse,” a senior police official said. He added that disciplinary action would be taken if dereliction of duty is established.
The identity of the escaped prisoner and the charges against him have not yet been officially disclosed. However, police have assured the public that all available resources are being utilized to track down the suspect.
