PESHAWAR: A suspected criminal wanted in 25 serious criminal cases was killed during a police shootout in Peshawar, police said on Saturday.
The suspect, identified as Azmat alias Azmate, son of Hidayatullah, was among the most-wanted fugitives and was sought by police in Peshawar, Nowshera, and Bannu districts.
According to police, Azmat was wanted in multiple cases, including murder, attempted murder, armed attacks on police, highway robbery, armed robbery, drug trafficking, and other serious offenses.
Police said the suspect and his accomplices opened fire with the intent to kill after spotting a police team in the Pushtakhara area. Officers returned fire, and Azmat was killed in the exchange.
Police recovered weapons from the suspect’s possession. His accomplices managed to escape, and search operations are underway to apprehend them.
Authorities said further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
