Majority of Pakistanis Appreciate Field Marshal, PM Roles in US-Iran Mediation

ISLAMABAD : A majority of Pakistanis have expressed appreciation for the role played by the country’s military and political leadership in mediating between the United States and Iran, according to a new survey released by Ipsos Pakistan.

 

The poll found that 55 percent of respondents praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff, for his efforts in the US-Iran mediation, while 38 percent credited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his role.

 

According to the survey, 45 percent of Pakistanis described the mediation between the two nations as a “big victory” for Pakistan. Additionally, 37 percent believed the initiative improved Pakistan’s global image.

 

When asked which countries supported the mediation efforts, a majority of respondents pointed to regional allies. China was named by 58 percent of participants, followed by Turkey with 42 percent. Saudi Arabia and Russia were cited by 31 percent and 24 percent of respondents, respectively.

 

The findings highlight public perception of Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement amid ongoing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
