ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast more rain across several parts of the country on Tuesday, urging residents to remain cautious as flash flooding continues to affect parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following days of heavy monsoon downpours.
According to the weather department, Lahore is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain throughout the day. Low wind speeds are likely to keep humidity levels high, making conditions hot and muggy. Temperatures are forecast to range between 28 and 35 degrees Celsius, with relative humidity recorded at 89%.
In Karachi, partly cloudy weather is expected, with light rain or drizzle possible in isolated areas during the night. Temperatures are likely to remain between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, while southwesterly winds continue to blow. The Meteorological Department said the city’s air quality remains satisfactory, with pollutant levels within normal limits.
Meanwhile, flash floods triggered by torrential rains in Chilas district of Gilgit-Baltistan have damaged agricultural land and crops, while several people have lost their lives. Authorities have closed the Babusar Road to all traffic due to the flood situation.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said six people have been killed and six others injured in rain-related incidents since July 29. At least 65 houses have suffered partial or complete damage.
The affected districts include Abbottabad, Peshawar, Swat, Buner, Khyber, Chitral and several other parts of the province.
The Meteorological Department and disaster management authorities have advised residents, particularly those living in low-lying areas, mountainous regions and near rivers and streams, to take precautionary measures and avoid unnecessary travel as heavy rains continue.
