ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s armed forces have honoured the country’s martyrs and paid tribute to Ghazis and the families of fallen soldiers as nation observes the 61st Defence and Martyrs Day on September 6.
The tribute was conveyed by the country’s senior military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu and Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza.
In a message shared by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the armed forces described September 6 as a lasting reminder of national unity, courage and determination.
September 6 Recalls 1965 War
The military leadership said Defence and Martyrs Day commemorates the role played by Pakistan’s armed forces and the nation during the 1965 war. According to ISPR, the day reflects how the nation came together in support of the country’s defence during a critical period in the nation’s history. The armed forces said generations of military personnel have served across land, air and sea, with many making the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Tribute to Martyrs and Their Families
The military leadership praised country’s martyrs for their commitment to duty, honour and national service. It also acknowledged the families of fallen personnel, describing their resilience and strength as an enduring part of the nation’s story. Ghazis—military personnel who have survived combat—were also recognised for their continued service and role in protecting Pakistan’s frontiers.

Armed Forces Reaffirm Defence Commitment
ISPR said the armed forces remain prepared to safeguard nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.The military leadership reiterated Pakistan’s stated preference for peace, regional stability and peaceful coexistence, while stressing that the country’s commitment to peace should not be interpreted as a lack of resolve. It further stated that any aggression against motherland would receive a swift and decisive response.
Military Renews Pledge to Pakistan
On Defence and Martyrs Day, the armed forces renewed their commitment to serving motherland and its people.
ISPR said the sacrifices of the Shuhada, the courage of the Ghazis and the resilience of their families would continue to serve as a source of national strength and pride. The armed forces also reaffirmed their pledge to perform their responsibilities with professionalism, discipline, honour and determination.
