QUETTA: Major opposition parties in Balochistan have called for the dissolution of the provincial assembly and the holding of free, fair, and transparent elections, asserting that only a genuinely elected government can address the province’s worsening political and security challenges.
At a joint press conference following an All Parties Meeting at the Quetta Press Club, leaders from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), National Party (NP), and Awami National Party (ANP) announced their move toward a united political alliance aimed at restoring peace, democratic governance, and constitutional rule in the province.
JUI-F Balochistan chief Senator Maulana Abdul Wasey, National Party President Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, and ANP Balochistan President Asghar Khan Achakzai addressed reporters, outlining their demands for political reform.
Senator Wasey urged the government to immediately implement the agreement reached following the Ziarat incident and resolve provincial issues through dialogue rather than the use of force. He maintained that Balochistan’s challenges were political in nature and therefore required political solutions, warning that the exclusion of mainstream political parties from decision-making had further aggravated the situation.
“What we call the ‘Form-47 system’ has failed,” Wasey declared, calling for fresh elections and democratic reforms to restore public confidence.
The opposition leaders expressed deep concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, stating that highways linking Quetta with Karachi and other parts of the country had become increasingly unsafe, disrupting travel, trade, and the livelihoods of local communities. They called on the government to take effective measures to restore security and ensure the safe movement of citizens across the province.
Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch said the opposition parties would jointly struggle for a peaceful and politically stable Balochistan. He also vowed to protect the 18th Constitutional Amendment and the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award against any attempt to alter or reverse them.
ANP provincial president Asghar Khan Achakzai condemned the recent killings in Khuzdar, saying the government had failed to protect the lives of citizens. He stressed that the unity of Baloch, Pashtun, Hazara, and settler communities must be preserved and confirmed that the emerging opposition alliance would also explore jointly contesting future elections.
The leaders announced that an All Parties Conference (APC), to be led by JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, would be held in September, with invitations extended to representatives of all schools of thought. A preparatory meeting for the APC has been scheduled for September 5 at the National Party office in Quetta.
The opposition leaders emphasized that sustained political dialogue, democratic governance, and constitutional supremacy remained essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in Balochistan.
