ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General (Rtd) Nauman Mehmood has been officially appointed as the first Secretary-General of the historic Mecca Pact.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, General Nauman will lead the newly established Allied General Secretariat based in Riyadh.
This major strategic development follows the joint defense agreement signed between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia on September 17, 2025, during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Saudi Arabia, where he signed the pact alongside the Saudi Crown Prince at Al-Yamamah Palace.
Turkey later joined this tripartite alliance during a high-profile ceremony in Mecca, witnessed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
