MUZAFFARABAD: Police in Azad Kashmir have foiled a major sabotage plot by arresting two armed operatives belonging to a banned action committee. The arrests expose a conspiracy to incite rebellion and violence under the guise of public rights.
Acting on a tip-off, police officials intercepted a vehicle at a security checkpoint and caught two members of the banned Awami Action Committee red-handed. The suspects were smuggling a large cache of weapons from Dadyal to Rawalakot.
During initial interrogation, the detained operatives confessed to working for the committee’s militant ringleaders, identified as Mehran, Aman, and Nazim.
One arrested suspect, Naeem, admitted his active membership in the action committee. He confessed to participating in previous acts of vandalism and violent riots. Naeem revealed that his handler, Mehran, ordered them to transport the weapons from Dadyal to fuel upcoming clashes.
Naeem further disclosed that committee leaders forcibly confiscated vehicle keys from protestors to prevent them from leaving the rally sites. He also revealed that the group previously abducted, tortured, and sexually assaulted a youth from Mirpur to silence him from speaking out against the committee.
The second arrested suspect, Aqib, confessed that the leadership intended to use the smuggled weapons directly against the police and Rangers. Regretting his actions, Aqib publicly distanced himself from the banned group and urged the general public to reject the committee’s violent activities.
Political and security experts state that the arrests completely expose the malicious agenda of the banned action committee. Officials note that the public has now completely rejected the foreign-funded movement after discovering its violent goals.
