ISLAMABAD: The Iranian delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed Islamabad on Saturday after holding a series of high-level meetings with Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership, focusing on regional developments, diplomatic engagement, and bilateral relations.
Araghchi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Asim Munir. The discussions were described by officials as constructive and centered on the evolving regional security environment, particularly in the context of recent tensions and ceasefire developments involving Iran.
The Iranian foreign minister conveyed Tehran’s negotiating position, including its concerns regarding demands put forward by the United States. Araghchi reasserted Iran’s “principled positions” concerning the latest developments and focused on the importance of a complete end to what he termed an “imposed war” against Iran.
In this regard, the State-run Pakistan Television (PTV) reported that both sides also reviewed bilateral ties and explored avenues for further strengthening cooperation.
The meeting at the Prime Minister’s House was attended by senior officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the interaction as a “warm and cordial exchange of views,” highlighting the importance of sustained engagement between the two neighboring countries. He noted that discussions covered a range of issues of mutual interest, with a particular focus on enhancing Pakistan–Iran relations.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that the meeting lasted approximately two hours and underscored the government’s emphasis on dialogue and diplomacy as essential tools for maintaining peace and stability in the region and beyond.
Earlier in the day, Araghchi also held a separate meeting with Army Chief Asim Munir, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and assessed the broader regional situation.
The visit is seen as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to address regional challenges through dialogue and to reinforce longstanding ties between Pakistan and Iran.
