ISLAMABAD: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held an important meeting with Field Marshal Asim Munir during his visit to Islamabad. The meeting took place between Araghchi and Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Asim Munir.
This indicated the Iranian foreign minister’s first official engagement after arriving in the Pakistani capital, signaling the importance both countries attach to bilateral relations and regional cooperation.
In this regard, the senior Pakistani officials were also present during the discussions, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and other members of the government.
The Iranian delegation comprised Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.
Later in the day, a Pakistani official familiar with the discussions told Reuters that Araghchi conveyed Tehran’s negotiating position to Pakistani authorities. This included Iran’s key demands as well as its reservations regarding proposals put forward by the United States.
The visit comes at a time of evolving regional dynamics, with both Islamabad and Tehran seeking to strengthen cooperation and enhance diplomatic engagement. Observers note that such high-level interactions underline the strategic importance of Pakistan-Iran relations, particularly in the context of regional peace and security.
Araghchi is also expected to meet Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during his visit. These meetings are likely to further discussions on diplomatic coordination and economic cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
