Iran says no US talks scheduled, Qatar technical visit unrelated to Washington

TEHRAN: Iran has announced that no negotiations with the United States are scheduled in the coming days, dismissing speculation about any imminent diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

In this regard, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement that there are currently no planned talks with US officials.

Baghaei confirmed that an Iranian technical delegation will travel to Qatar later this week. However, he stressed that the visit has no connection with any US delegation that may also be present in the Gulf state.

He rejected suggestions that the trip could serve as an opportunity for indirect or direct discussions with American officials.

Iran has not yet entered negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement with the United States or other parties. He explained that Tehran’s immediate priority remains the implementation of certain commitments outlined in the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

“The implementation of specific points of the MoU is currently Iran’s main focus,” Baghaei said, adding that discussions on a comprehensive or final agreement cannot begin until those commitments have been fulfilled.

The statement signals that Tehran intends to concentrate on meeting the agreed technical and procedural requirements before considering any broader diplomatic negotiations.

Iranian officials have repeatedly maintained that progress toward a lasting agreement depends on the practical implementation of previously agreed measures.

Baghaei’s comments also seek to clarify reports linking the upcoming visit of the Iranian delegation to the presence of US representatives in Qatar. He focused on that the technical mission is independent and should not be interpreted as part of any diplomatic engagement with Washington.
