BEIJING: Trump said the United States may launch fresh attacks on Iran in the future if necessary. He alleged that American forces had “almost destroyed” Iran’s military capability during previous operations.

In this regard, Trump stated that although a month-long ceasefire had reduced tensions, Iran might have restored some of its military strength during this period.

“If they have managed to recover to some extent, then perhaps we may have to go again for some cleanup work,” he stated while addressing reporters.

The US president further said that he was personally not in favor of a ceasefire with Iran. However, he added that Washington decided to step back after appeals from several countries, especially Pakistan, which urged restraint and diplomatic engagement to avoid further escalation in the region.

Meanwhile, Iran strongly rejected Trump’s statements and described them as “psychological tactics.”

Iranian officials maintained that the country’s defense capabilities remain fully intact and operational. Tehran also warned that any new attack on Iranian territory would receive a “decisive response.”

Meanwhile, several regional countries, including Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, have been actively involved in behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts in recent weeks.

These countries reportedly worked through diplomatic channels to encourage negotiations and reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.
