Pakistan produced a disciplined bowling performance to dismiss Bangladesh for 278 runs in the first innings of the second Test match being played in Sylhet, while Bangladesh batter Litton Das stood out with a fighting century.
In this regard, Bangladesh, however, faced an early setback when opener Mahmudul Hasan was dismissed without scoring. Fast bowler Mohammad Abbas struck in the opening overs as Salman Ali Agha completed the catch to give Pakistan an ideal start.
Bangladesh’s second wicket also fell quickly when Tanzid Hasan, after scoring 26 runs, was caught and bowled by Abbas. Pakistan maintained pressure through disciplined line and length bowling, preventing the hosts from building strong partnerships in the early stages of the innings.
Mominul Haque contributed 22 runs before being bowled by Khurram Shahzad, while Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto managed 29 runs before wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan caught him off another delivery from Abbas.
Furthermore, the experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim added 23 runs but was trapped lbw by Khurram Shahzad. Shortly afterward, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was dismissed for just four runs after giving a catch to Hassan Ali off Shahzad’s bowling.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh lost their seventh wicket at a total of 176 when Taijul Islam was bowled by Sajid Khan after scoring 16 runs. The hosts continued to struggle against Pakistan’s pace attack, and Taskin Ahmed became the eighth batter to depart after scoring seven runs.
He was caught by Salman Ali Agha off the bowling of Khurram Shahzad with the score at 214.
The right-handed batter scored a valuable 126 runs and remained the standout performer for the home side. Nahid Rana was dismissed without scoring as Bangladesh’s innings came to an end at 278.
Khurram Shahzad led the bowling attack with four wickets, while Mohammad Abbas claimed three wickets. Hasan Ali picked up two wickets and spinner Sajid Khan added one wicket to complete a strong collective effort by the visiting side.
