ISLAMABAD : Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar announced on Wednesday that the government has decided to approach the Supreme Court for a review of the recent court order pertaining to the health and medical treatment of the incarcerated PTI founder.
Speaking to the media, Tarar stated that the government had thoroughly reviewed the court’s decision and consulted its legal team on various points of the order. He maintained that certain ambiguities exist within the ruling, which necessitated seeking clarification from the apex court through legal channels.
“The order has been reviewed, and our legal team has also been consulted on other points of the directive. There is ambiguity regarding some issues, and we are approaching the Supreme Court to remove this confusion,” the Law Minister explained.
Tarar raised a broader question regarding the applicability of the court’s ruling, pointing out that numerous prisoners across the country’s jails are facing health-related challenges. He questioned whether the Supreme Court’s order would apply universally to all prisoners or remain confined exclusively to the PTI founder’s case.
“Many prisoners in the country’s jails are facing health problems. So the question also arises—will this order be for all prisoners, or will it be limited to the case of the PTI founder only?” he asked.
The Law Minister further clarified that convicted prisoners are already provided with treatment facilities in government hospitals as per existing protocols. He assured that the ambiguity surrounding the court order would be resolved through proper legal procedures, and the government would pursue the review petition to ensure clarity on the matter for all stakeholders.
