SHAHARG: The gas explosion at a Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) coal mine in Shahrag, Harnai, left four miners dead and five others injured.
The explosion occurred after gas accumulated inside the coal mine, triggering a sudden blast and leaving several miners trapped underground. The incident raised an immediate emergency as rescue teams moved to reach workers inside the mine.
In this regard, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and the civil administration launched an emergency rescue operation at the site.
FC personnel also took part in the rescue effort and provided security in the surrounding area to facilitate the operation and maintain order at the scene.
Rescue teams recovered the bodies of four miners from inside the mine. The fatalities highlight the dangers faced by workers in underground coal mines, where the accumulation of combustible gases can create serious risks.
The recovered bodies were taken out of the mine as rescue personnel continued efforts to assist other affected workers.
Meanwhile, five injured miners were successfully brought out of the mine and shifted to a hospital for immediate medical treatment.
Safety Concerns Remain
The incident once again draws attention to safety challenges associated with underground coal mining, particularly the risks posed by gas accumulation.
Proper ventilation, gas detection systems and emergency preparedness are considered essential for protecting miners working in such hazardous environments.
