ISLAMABAD: Four children died of suspected suffocation after becoming trapped inside a parked car in Pakistan’s northwestern Mianwali district, police and local residents said on Monday.
The incident occurred in Khaglanwala village in Isa Khel tehsil.
According to local residents, the children left their homes in the morning to play but did not return. Their families later launched a search and found the children unconscious inside a parked car at a nearby house.
Police said the children had entered the vehicle while playing. The car’s doors locked automatically, trapping them inside. The children were unable to get out and died from suspected suffocation.
The victims were between four and seven years old. They included one boy and three girls.
Police said two of the victims were sisters, while the other boy and girl were their cousins.
Authorities shifted the bodies to the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital for legal formalities and post-mortem procedures, where required.
The incident plunged the village into mourning.

Police have opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
