QUETTA: Security forces Balochistan foiled a major terrorist plot after recovering a cache of explosives, weapons and communication equipment during an intelligence-based operation in the Panjgur district, security sources said on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out in the Jerek area of Panjgur following actionable intelligence regarding militant activity in the region.
During the raid, security personnel seized four rocket fuses, multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and other materials believed to have been intended for use in a large-scale terrorist attack, according to security sources.
Officials said the timely operation prevented what could have been a significant act of terrorism, averting potential casualties and damage in the area.
“The recovered explosives were intended for a major terrorist attack,” security sources said, adding that the swift and professional response of the security forces successfully neutralized the threat before it could be executed.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, has witnessed periodic militant violence in recent years, with security forces regularly conducting intelligence-led operations against armed groups operating in the region.
