QUETTA: The Balochistan government has imposed Section 144 across the province from 1st to 10th Muharram-ul-Haram to maintain law and order and ensure the peaceful observance of religious processions and gatherings.
A notification issued by the Balochistan Home Department stated that the restrictions were enforced on the recommendations of the Central Police Office Balochistan in view of the prevailing security situation. The measures aim to prevent any untoward incidents during the holy month.
Under the restrictions, the publication and distribution of provocative, sectarian, and hate-related material have been strictly prohibited. Authorities have also imposed curbs on the circulation of content on social media and other digital platforms that could disrupt public order or incite tensions.
The notification further bans the display and carrying of weapons in public places, although law enforcement personnel will remain exempt from the restriction. In Quetta district, pillion riding has also been prohibited during the specified period.
Additionally, unauthorized individuals will not be allowed to occupy rooftops, balconies, or elevated locations situated along the routes of Muharram processions as part of enhanced security measures.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his greetings to the nation and the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijri.
In his message, the prime minister prayed for peace, prosperity, and stability, expressing hope that the new year would strengthen tolerance, harmony, and the protection of humanity worldwide.
He noted that the Islamic year had begun at a time when a major international dispute was moving toward a peaceful resolution and commended Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace through dialogue and diplomacy.
The prime minister said that mutual understanding and peaceful engagement reflected the teachings of Islam and the example set by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He added that the new Hijri year serves as a reminder of the historic Hijrah, which led to the establishment of an exemplary Islamic society based on justice, brotherhood, sacrifice, and collective responsibility.
Recalling the significance of Muharram-ul-Haram, Prime Minister Shehbaz paid tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions, whose sacrifice in Karbala continues to inspire generations with its message of courage, faith, and steadfastness.
The prime minister also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while praying for peace, prosperity, and progress for Pakistan, the Muslim world, and humanity as a whole.
