BAREILLY — In a shocking case of abuse originating from the historic city of Bareilly in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a 57-year-old man was arrested after allegedly subjecting his 14-year-old daughter to horrific abuse over several months.
According to Indian media reports, the accused, identified as Naresh, lived with his family in an isolated house located in the Priyanka Nagar area.
Naresh primarily resided in Lucknow for work, returning home to Bareilly for a few days each month.
The family includes three daughters—17-year-old Sarika, 14-year-old Rachna, and 10-year-old Shweta—along with a seven-year-old son named Suresh.
The children reportedly lived under constant fear and pressure, maintaining little interaction with neighbors, while their mother, Shalini, was described as a strict and reserved woman.
The horrifying truth came to light due to a letter written by the eldest daughter, Sarika, addressed to her father. Sarika had apparently intended to mail the letter but accidentally dropped it in a neighborhood street, where it was found by a young man named Vilas.
In the letter, Sarika directly confronted her father, expressing the severe mental anguish and pressure her younger sister Rachna—Naresh’s biological daughter—was enduring because of his actions.
Sarika wrote that no father could fathom such vile behavior toward his own child.
Explaining that she was writing out of fear rather than speaking or calling directly, she wanted him to realize how much terror and hatred his actions had brought into the household environment.
Sarika noted that Rachna had become so traumatized that she would wake up screaming from nightmares, pleading with her father for mercy.
The letter also suggested that Shalini, the mother, was aware of her husband’s actions but remained silent out of fear of violence and expulsion from the home.
After reading the letter, Vilas decided to handle the sensitive matter carefully and discussed it with his parents.
Seizing an appropriate opportunity, Vilas’s mother spoke with Shalini.
Initially, Shalini attempted to evade the issue, but upon being informed about the discovered letter, she broke down in tears and revealed the entire ordeal.
Acting on the advice of Vilas’s mother, Shalini filed a complaint with the police, who subsequently recorded a statement from 14-year-old Rachna.
Rachna recounted to investigators that the news of her father returning home on leave felt like a catastrophe.
She stated that Naresh would take her to a separate room and subject her to brutal abuse, threatening to kill her and bury her body inside the house if she spoke out.
She added that her mother, sisters, and even her seven-year-old brother were fully aware of the torment she suffered.
