DOHA: The explosions were heard over Qatar’s capital, Doha as air defence systems were activated following heightened regional tensions linked to recent military developments involving the United States and Iran.
In this regard, as per the credible international media, Doha reported witnessing multiple interceptions in the night sky as loud explosions echoed across the city.
The incidents occurred after the United States reportedly carried out strikes against Iran following an attack involving a vessel in the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
The authorities in Qatar urged residents to remain calm and follow official safety instructions. Many people across the capital received emergency notifications on their mobile phones advising them to “remain in their homes and safe places” until further notice.
The alerts were issued as a precautionary measure while security agencies monitored the evolving situation.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage in Doha. Officials had not yet confirmed the exact nature or source of the explosions at the time of reporting.
It also remained unclear whether the interceptions were directed at incoming aerial threats or were part of broader defensive operations.
Qatar has played a significant diplomatic role in recent years, serving as a key mediator between Washington and Tehran during periods of heightened regional tension.
The latest developments have raised concerns over the potential for a wider escalation in the Gulf, where security remains closely tied to international energy supplies and maritime trade.
The Strait of Hormuz, through which a substantial portion of the world’s oil shipments passes, has long been regarded as one of the most strategically sensitive waterways.
