KABUL : Fawzia Kofi, a prominent Afghan politician and former speaker of the parliament, has accused the Taliban of escalating persecution against her and her family, including the storming of her residence and the arrest of several relatives.
In a statement issued on X, Kofi revealed that Taliban forces forcibly took control of her family home approximately three months ago, forcing her relatives to vacate the premises. The latest incident, she said, occurred on April 28, when the group attacked her new place of residence and detained multiple family members and innocent citizens from Badakhshan province.

Kofi condemned the actions as “a sign of the Taliban’s weakness and cowardice,” arguing that the crackdown reflects the group’s inability to tolerate peaceful opposition.
“They have no answer to legitimate political dissent except repression and intimidation,” Kofi said. She called on the international community to intervene immediately to secure the safe release of those detained, and vowed to continue her struggle “until human dignity and justice are achieved.”
The Taliban authorities have not yet issued a public response to Kofi’s allegations. The former speaker, a long-time advocate for women’s rights and democratic governance, has remained an outspoken critic of the Taliban since their return to power in 2021
