ISLAMABAD / RIYADH : Iconic government buildings and landmarks across Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were illuminated with vibrant lights and national flags on Saturday, as both nations celebrated the signing of a landmark tri-nation defense agreement with Turkey.
The historic Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement was formally signed yesterday in the holy city of Mecca, with the heads of state of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey affixing their signatures to the pact, which aims to bolster security cooperation and regional stability.
In Pakistan, the excitement was palpable. The President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s House, and the Parliament buildings in the federal capital Islamabad were adorned with spectacular decorations and lights. Provincial cities followed suit, mounting grand displays to mark the occasion.
Flags of the three countries were hoisted along Islamabad’s main highways, while welcome banners related to the Mecca Agreement were prominently displayed. Digital screens and billboards across the city showcased pictures of the three nations’ leadership, alongside fluttering flags and celebratory motifs.
The unifying tagline – “Peace, Security, and Stability” – was visible on digital screens nationwide, reflecting the agreement’s core objectives.
The timing of the accord added to the national fervor, as it coincided with preparations for Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations. The signing further amplified the joy and patriotic spirit already sweeping the country.
Across the border in Saudi Arabia, the celebration was equally grand. Prominent landmarks and towers in the capital Riyadh and other cities were decorated with the flags of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, symbolizing the deepening bonds between the three allies.
Officials on both sides hailed the agreement as a “historic milestone” that would enhance joint defense capabilities, intelligence sharing, and military cooperation, while promoting peace and stability in a volatile region.
