ISLAMABAD: The panic briefly gripped the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Peshawar on Saturday after earthquake tremors were felt during an ongoing budget session.
The tremors were felt while the provincial assembly was in session discussing budget-related matters. The sudden shaking caused concern among members of the assembly, leading to a moment of uncertainty inside the house.
The Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly immediately suspended the proceedings and adjourned the session for five minutes to ensure the safety of all participants and allow the situation to stabilize.
In this regard, there are several witnesses said that there was a brief rush and confusion inside the assembly hall as members reacted to the unexpected seismic activity.
However, order was restored shortly afterward, and no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage were received from the assembly premises.
The earthquake tremors were not limited to Peshawar. The residents of the federal capital, Islamabad, and the neighboring city of Rawalpindi also reported feeling the shocks. The tremors prompted people in offices, commercial buildings, and residential areas to move outdoors as a precaution.
The emergency response agencies and local administrations remained alert following the tremors, while officials urged the public to stay calm and follow safety guidelines in the event of aftershocks.
