Divide Balochistan to End Deprivation: Nosherwani

QUETTA: Pakistan Muslim League (N) central leader and former provincial minister Mir Abdul Karim Nosherwani has called for the division of Balochistan into two provinces, asserting that the region cannot achieve development and prosperity under its current unified structure.

In a statement issued here, Nosherwani noted that Balochistan constitutes nearly half of Pakistan’s landmass but suffers from a dispersed population, which has hindered governance and service delivery. He lamented that despite successive governments offering “flattering slogans” for 77 years, the province’s backwardness and the sense of deprivation among its people remain unresolved.

However, Nosherwani praised the current provincial coalition government led by Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti for taking “practical steps” toward development, calling the process valuable and commendable. He stressed that lasting progress hinges on peace, appealing to the people of Balochistan to strengthen Bugti’s administration and play their “historic key role” in establishing stability across the province.

Elaborating on his proposal, Nosherwani suggested that Balochistan be bifurcated into Southern Balochistan and Northern Balochistan. He proposed that Quetta serve as the headquarters for one province, while Turbat or Khuzdar become the capital of the other. “Then progress and prosperity will come, and peace will be established,” he asserted.
