LONDON: England fast bowler Brydon Carse was arrested outside a nightclub but was later released without charge after police questioned him, British media reported.
The incident occurred as England prepared for its Test series against Pakistan. Footage showing Carse in handcuffs outside the nightclub later emerged, prompting the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to launch an investigation.
The arrest came after England defeated Derbyshire in a three-day County Championship match in Durham. The viral footage also appeared to show two other England players, Matthew Potts and Ben Stokes.
The ECB said it was aware of an incident in Derby on the previous night and was investigating the matter.
“We are currently looking into the incident and will provide a further update when possible,” the board said in a statement.
According to media reports, police questioned Carse before releasing him without charge.
The incident comes shortly after England’s newly appointed captain Joe Root said he wanted his players to be “good people” and role models.
Meanwhile, Stokes recently discussed England cricket’s drinking culture on the For the Love of Cricket podcast.
He said alcohol had remained linked with cricket despite the sport becoming more professional over the years.
“We are now in 2026,” Stokes said, adding that the drinking culture had evolved from club cricket and continued at higher levels of the game.

Carse is part of England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan. However, he was not selected for the first Test.
