JAKARTA: In Indonesia, the death toll from a collision between two passenger trains has risen to 14, while more than 80 passengers were injured.
According to foreign media reports, a high-speed passenger train crashed into another train standing at a station in the suburban city of Bekasi near Jakarta, causing several coaches to derail. Many passengers were trapped in the wreckage, and rescue teams had to cut through the damaged bogies to free them.
Officials said all 240 passengers on one train remained safe, while several coaches of the second train derailed, including the women-only coach, which was completely destroyed.
After the accident, Indonesia’s president visited the injured in hospital and ordered a full investigation.
